Arnulfo Caro & Martha Cartagena
Arnulfo Caro, inspired by his brother, started growing coffee in 2020, harvesting his first crop in 2022, and has since been marketing specialty coffee with his wife, Martha, and their family. While Martha focuses on coffee processing and raising their young daughter, Arnulfo, a former miner, is fully dedicated to expanding the farm, guided by his mentor, Santiago’s father.

From Mining to Coffee: Arnulfo and Martha’s Journey to Specialty Coffee Farming
The farm is partly a family inheritance, while the other half is owned by both. Arnulfo Caro, Santiago Caro’s uncle, was inspired by his brother—Santiago’s father—to start growing coffee. Following his example, he began planting in 2020 and had his first harvest in 2022. Since then, they have been marketing specialty coffee for about a year.
Arnulfo and Martha have a young daughter. Martha dedicates most of her time to raising her, while her older children help Arnulfo with the farm work. Additionally, she is primarily responsible for the coffee processing and drying.
After several years in this project, both are now fully committed to the farm’s operations. Arnulfo, who was previously a miner, has always been accustomed to working the land and found a similar value in coffee. His dream is to expand the farm while preparing for new challenges. His greatest mentor has been Santiago’s father, who gifted them the first coffee seeds and taught them everything about the coffee process.

Hoyo Rico
At over 2,100 meters above sea level, Arnulfo and Martha transformed a piece of land into a thriving coffee farm. Located in Anzá, Antioquia, its high altitude is the key to producing such a delicious and distinctive coffee.
